Within Circular Economy & Decarbonisation Department, the Environmental Technology Area provides highly innovative technological and strategic solutions to solve environmental challenges in a sustainable and efficient way addressing three main research lines: Air & gas treatment, Soil restoration & agronomy and Water treatment & reuse including Advanced Oxidation Processes, Biological Processes, Separation and Purification Technologies, and Nature-Based Solutions investigation units. Leitat and specifically the Environmental Technology Area, can bring consolidate experience in the treatment of different wastewater (hospital, urban, industrial, and agricultural) by train of technologies combining physicochemical and biological processes for the degradation (up to 80-95%) of target contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), including pharmaceuticals, antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARG) and bacteria (ARB) as well as major indicators of microbiological contamination (e.g. E.coli, salmonella, legionella, intestinal nematodes). The main goal is providing a cost-efficient strategy for obtaining safe reclaimed water for several uses (industrial, agricultural, urban, and environmental uses) meeting the most restrictive actual European and local normative.
